I have embraced the challenge of making Social Science relatable, interesting, and relevant to my students while also embedding the Common Core Standards and I.B. philosophy. In my spare time I enjoy theater, music, and community involvement, all of which I love to incorporate in my teaching career. Thank you for visiting.

Educational Philosophy
I strongly believe it is my duty to help prepare students to understand the relevance of Social Science as well as help them become well rounded, successful, and respected/respectful individuals. Through the I.B. pedagogical philosophy, my goal is to not only use my Individuals and Societies curriculum to help students become productive and global citizens but to also teach them to embody the I.B. Learner profile traits:
I strongly believe that connections with students are necessary to making education valuable and meaningful. I enjoy being able to relate challenging and what may seem distant Social Science content to my own students’ lives. By connecting with students’ funds of knowledge, students can succeed more academically and socially, ultimately utilizing and connecting with what they learn. Not only does rapport with students help their learning process, it also creates a safe and hospitable classroom environment in which students feel free to express themselves without judgment, which is also crucial for a meaningful and successful learning experience. With my experience working with students of diverse populations, languages, and learning styles, I recognize that each student has a different learning perspective. Therefore, I am a firm proponent of student centered constructivist activities that fully involve students in their learning experience such as through utilization of technology discussing and connecting their own experiences and backgrounds. These lessons are not only possible through I.B. assessments,, they also greatly benefit students to relate to social science phenomenon and create strong arguments and ideas based on evidence from multiple perspectives. I also believe in differentiating instruction and figuring out what learning style works best for each student, therefore making learning accessible for all of my students. |
